Farmhouse Kitchen
|
This is a hand made farmhouse style kitchen which has been given a modern feel by using very clean, simple lines with some carefully placed rustic features. This kitchen really benefits from the unusual amount of light it receives, and the rustic slate floor which was laid to offset the natural beauty of the woodwork, which is fished in Danish oil.
The sink unit and larders are constructed from solid beech with marine ply inners and stainless steel metalwork for maximum longevity. The sink unit worktop is made from specially selected Dartmoor Ash, which is repeated in the shelves and feature lintel over the cooker. This is an extremely hard timber which will look this good far longer than any Formica or stone surface. Forming the island unit are two opposing free standing solid beech butcher's blocks with 4" solid Beech Blockwood tops, complementing the fixed units perfectly and adding versatility to the room. The kitchen area opens seamlessly into a large dining room continuing the farmhouse feel with solid Beech table and chairs.
A commanding focus of this kitchen is the wine rack. This one-off custom feature was made from a single Antique Oak railway sleeper, which was cored out to take the bottles which rest on pegs made from the same piece of timber. The whole rack is polished to the kind of high sheen that people can't help walking up to and touching. Its features like this which make your kitchen special.
Everything on this kitchen is built to last, with no chipboard or MDF which will succumb to damp, and no Formica surfaces which are easily damaged. A top of the range construction which will last decades if cared for properly. Coupled with the fact that these European hardwoods come from renewable managed forests this makes for a kitchen with a considerably smaller environmental impact than a chipboard equivalent which may need to be replaced within 10 years or so. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that all this costs a fraction of the price of many bespoke kitchens which use inferior materials such as chipboard and Formica. A kitchen like this could be yours for under £5000.
